Offenders of sexual violence against children are marked by characteristics different from those of sexual offenders against adults, with a higher chance of repeated offence. Thus, understanding their socio-psychological and demographic characteristics is a shortcut to not only gaining a better understanding of violent crimes against children but also in reducing the rate of repeated offences. The 「Record Survey on the Offenders of Sexual Violence against Children」 is a follow-up survey on the report published in 2000 by the Korean Institute of Criminology on the sexual violence against children, conducted for the purpose of establishing suitable counter measures by gaining a comprehensive understanding of offenders of sexual violence against children. The contents of the survey include details related to the case, suspect related details, crime record of suspect, suspect’s criminal characteristics, and victim related elements.
