Abstract

The purpose of this survey research is to examine how Koreans define corruption and the abuse of power and to understand their causes and conditions. Taking into consideration that the definition of corruption can be affected by generational, cultural, and regional backgrounds, this survey presents the subjects with a variety of situations and asks them to decide whether or not they are acts of corruption and how close the acts are to being acts of corruption. The questionnaire is composed of the definition of corruption, reported levels of corruption, attitudes towards corruption, traditional values and modern values, attitudes towards unofficial punishment and rational decision making thereof, evaluation of the level of corruption of coworkers etc, learning from the exposure to corruption, and self-control.
