Lee, Nae Young / East Asia Institute
The East Asia Institute is periodically examining the trust index of Korean society by conducting public opinion surveys since January 2005. This survey research aims to examine if the Korean people have confidence in the market and the government system, moving beyond pre-modern personalism based on blood ties, localism, and ties with alumni. This survey classified groups according to levels of social influence and investigated the level of social trust of each group. The questionnaire included the trust level of various groups such as the government, army, large corporations, media, union, and citizen groups to analyze if the "powerful," those with the most social influence, are believed to be most trustworthy.
