Abstract
The Korean Social Life, Health and Aging Project (KSHAP) is a panel survey conducted by Yonsei University's Healthy Aging Project starting in 2011 to build an integrated index of social, mental, physical and functional health of Korean older adults as part of an international comparative study on the quality of life and aging process of older adults. KSHAP is designed based on the National Social Life, Health and Aging Project (NSHAP) organized by the University of Chicago, USA, and is conducted by establishing a panel of all older adults aged 60 years and older and their spouses in one myeon in Ganghwa-gun.
The data are derived from the first and second years of the study and consist of a combination of survey data measuring social support, intergenerational support exchange, welfare service use, social participation, life satisfaction, stress, depression, suicidal ideation and attempts, medical history, healthcare utilization, health checkups, immunizations, cognitive functioning, physical functioning, and health behaviors; biomedical indicators measured by physical examination, including body mass index, blood pressure, pulse, bone density, diabetes, and anemia levels; and community-wide social network data measured by focusing on the discussion networks of the survey participants.
