Abstract
In order to commemorate the 31st anniversary of the 5.18 Gwangju Democratization Movement, the Korea Social Research Center conducted this survey to assess the awareness and attitudes of Gwangju residents regarding the Democratization Movement. The major survey topics included historical image of Gwangju, degree of inheritance of the 5.18 spirit by Gwangju residents, degree of investigating the truth regarding 5.18, participation in 5.18 commemorative events, lead city of the 4.19 pro-democracy movement, Gwangju’s role related to 4.19, awareness of the pro-democracy movement museum and historic site, and desirable city image of Gwangju.
