Abstract

This survey was conducted by the Korea Institute for Population and Health (currently the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs, KIHASA) to discover the demands and financial status of those with voluntary membership in the national pension plan and to provide reform measures for the pension system for the purpose of expanding the subjects of obligatory membership in the national pension plan to the entire nation. The survey was conducted respectively among the household heads involved in agricultural activities, and those who are no involved in agricultural activities, and this data was collected from the household heads not involved in agricultural activities.
The main contents of the survey include, economic activities of each member of the household, experience of working in a business with more than 10 employees and reason for resignation, current occupation and number of employees at current workplace, expected age of retirement, plans for old age/death, amount in savings and insurance, membership in the national pension plan and reason for not joining, need for a national pension plan and intention of joining, awareness of the burden of premiums for national pension plan, opinion on government aid of insurance premiums, opinion on the methods of assessing insurance premiums, appropriate level of insurance premium and payment cycle, attitude towards mandatory national pension, average monthly expenditure, average monthly food expenses, source of income, average monthly income, and amount of income tax payments.
