Abstract

As part of its family planning program the government distributed four varieties of experimental oral contraceptives for one year from May of 1987 to April of 1988 to promote the increase in distribution of oral contraceptives highly effective in increasing the rate of birth control. The Korea Institute for Population and Health (the current Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs) conducted this survey to provide reform measures for policy on the distribution of contraceptives by analyzing the utilization, effects, and side effects of the four varieties of oral contraceptives.
The survey was conducted among married women and public health workers, and this data was collected from married women. The main contents of the survey include experience of pregnancy and childbirth, contraceptive used, reason for choosing the contraceptive of choice, reason for using contraceptives, duration of using contraceptive, channel of purchase, price of purchase, difficulties in purchasing contraceptive, main reason for choosing a certain type, experience of failing in birth control while using contraceptive, side effects, whether treatment was received for side effect, whether or not the use of contraceptive was stopped and reason for doing so, intention of future purchase, awareness of direction for using contraceptive, reputation of oral contraceptives, and intention of recommending oral contraceptive.
