Abstract


The「WPO·EAI·Kyunghyang Shinmun 2008 World Public Opinion Survey」is a global survey project conducted among the citizens of 20 countries including Korea and the United States by the East Asia Institute (EAI) and the Kyunghyang Shinmun participating in the World Public Opinion (WPO) Program by the University of Maryland. This survey was conducted with the purpose of comparatively analyzing world public opinion on major international issues including human rights, energy resources, and disputes between nations in commemoration of the sixtieth anniversary of the United Nation’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The first survey conducted in the first half of 2008 includes major topics of leadership of heads of nations, influence of international public opinion, methods of governing nation, discrimination against women, human rights of women, racial discrimination, freedom of speech, abortion, torture, problem of oil depletion, and international conflict.
