Abstract

This survey was conducted by the Institute for Social Development Studies at Yonsei University as a part of the World Internet Project’s second year survey to investigate the use of personal computers and internet rapidly increasing within the Korean society to collect basic data for the study of its far-reaching implications. It is anticipated that such data will provide an opportunity to review the particularity and universality of Korean society in relation to the use of computers and the internet in an international context. The World Internet Project is an international comparative study collaboratively conducted by the UCLA Center for Communication Policy, Nanyang Technological University’s School of Communication and Information in Singapore, and Bocconi University of Italy. Surveys were first conducted in 2001 and currently in its second year there are around 20 member countries.
The questionnaire includes contents on hours of use per type of media, level of trust per type of media, computer ownership, political self-efficacy, opinion on the effects of the internet, opinion on informatization and information technology, family relations, social relations, method of connecting to the internet, reason for use, reason for not using the internet, and level of satisfaction with internet use.
