Abstract

Following the IMF crisis Korean society is suffering from the persistent problems of negative economic growth and high unemployment and the social problems arising from unemployment are one of the most urgent tasks faced by Korean society. The survey was conducted to provide the data necessary for offering a long term policy direction for the resolution of unemployment and related social problems and allow a scientific approach to the state of living, job seeking efforts, and psychological state of unemployed workers. The survey was conducted among unemployed workers residing in the Jeollabuk-do area in 1998 and 1999 during which time the unemployment rate was at its highest, and this data was collected in 1998. The questionnaire includes contents on the process of becoming unemployed, job seeking efforts, socio-psychological state, vocational training, public works, and state of living.
